BAGLUNG: The embassy of India in Kathmandu has distributed over Rs 400 million to former Gurkha soldiers of Indian Army as their pensions in Baglung.

In a two-week-long pension distribution camp that concluded on Friday, the Indian embassy, through the Pension Paying Office in Pokhara, distributed Rs 415.2 million to around 6,000 former Indian Gorkha soldiers, who thronged Baglung from across the Dhaulagri zone, as their pension for six months.

“We had targeted to distribute about Rs 600 million in pension,” said Ram Bahadur Thapa, secretary at the Pension Paying Office.

“Since many drew their pensions from the bank, we distribute only about Rs 400 million.” Many former Indian Gurkha soldiers draw their pensions from the State Bank of India (SBI).

The embassy has been organizing such camp twice a year for those who do not have bank accounts.
